leading the field since 1953
A Company with a Decades Long Commitment to Quality Service
Founded by Kenneth Laugenour and Lou Meikle in 1953, Laugenour and Meikle began with civil engineering and land surveying services to the largely agricultural area around Woodland and neighboring communities. Specializing in irrigation, drainage and other rural projects for the first few years, Laugenour and Meikle gradually grew the firm to include services in residential, commercial, government and land surveying fields as well. Kenneth Laugenour retired in 1970 and Lou Meikle retired in 1991, but we continue the firm in their names in honor of the decades long reputation they established.
Built on Reputation & Loyalty
Our firm grew in the early years through our reputation for quality client service in our local community. With repeat business from established clients and new business through referrals, that early business model continues still today. We are proud that we have earned the loyalty of our clients and developed a strong reputation for expert work and quality service.
Our clients are not the only loyal members of our firm. Many members of our staff count their years with us in decades. There is more than one story of a young employee spending the summer interning in the office or working on a survey crew at Laugenour and Meikle who end up staying with the company for their career, eventually becoming a leader or
Principal in the firm.
Through the loyalty of our clients and the experience of our staff, Laugenour and Meikle have been able to define ourselves as a leading surveying and engineering firm in Northern California.

Leading from the Ranks
At Laugenour and Meikle we believe that delivering the highest level of service to our clients requires our principals to remain actively involved in providing engineering and surveying services. By staying abreast of new regulations and emerging technologies and working directly on projects, we ensure each client receives the benefit of their many years of experience.
Dual-Driven Momentum
Our inception as a full-service civil engineering and surveying firm positioned us to expand in both professions, so that clients have come to depend on us to work with them from the earliest project phases (boundary and topographic surveys, project planning and preliminary engineering) through improvement plans and construction staking. In addition to simplifying our clients’ project management tasks, offering both civil engineering and surveying services enables us to maintain critical interaction between those disciplines, thus accelerating and smoothing the project progress. As we move forward, expanding capabilities in both areas, our in-house engineering and surveying teams will continue to distinguish us from the competition.
When the digital revolution began sweeping across industries in the late 1980s and early 1990s, our management saw the potential benefits the new technologies provided and determined to take advantage of those advances. Becoming early technology adopters enabled our relatively small firm to compete with much larger firms that could not advance as rapidly. That early decision has gradually evolved into a policy, so that we remain on the leading edge and maintain our competitive advantage.
