Challenge

Enable the regional center to adapt and expand to serve a growing population.  Develop innovative solutions to floodplain issues and challenges unique to detention facilities, including the design of a new sewer system that reduces clogging caused by inmates flushing items down the sewer system.

Solution

Since the site was first proposed for development in the 1960s, we have provided engineering, surveying, and construction staking services on a number of projects, including the Juvenile Detention Facility, Monroe Detention Center (initial and expansion), Probation Department Building, and Boat Storage and Evidence Facility. We raised the site elevation to avoid any possibility of flooding and redesigned and rerouted the sewer infrastructure to meet challenges unique to criminal detention facilities that had initially created problems.

Outcome

For more than three decades, we have worked closely with the county to ensure that the justice center meets the community’s needs today and allows for future expansion.
